Mikhail Kalinin series (19 ships, 1958 until 1964)

Mikhail Kalinin (1958) / Nr. 101 / 4871 grt
Delivered 1958 to Baltic Shipping Company as the first of a series of 15 sisterships featuring 3 classes (the last four units were designed as 1 class vessels). Servive on Leningrad-Helsinki-Stockholm-Copenhagen-London-Leningrad itinerary, later with further stops at Gdansk or Le Havre and cruise-service. 1973/74 reconstruction in Bremerhaven (1 class remaining, air-condition, stabilizers), served on the British and German cruise-markets. Further refurbishments in Rijeka and laid up partially. As from 1984 only cruises for the Tschech market. Laid up in Bremerhaven in 1991, rebuilding into a floating hotel named St. Petersburg. 1994 laid up in Murmansk, later scrapped in India.

Feliks Dzerzhinskiy (1958) / Nr 102 / 4871 grt
Delivered 1958 to Far Eastern Shipping Company. Served mainly on Nakhoda-Yokohama-Hon Kong line, less used for cruises. 1992 renamed into Excelsior Neptune, rebuilding into a cruiseship was planned (as with sistership Excelsior Mercury) but not realized. It sank in 1993 at the yards dock and was scrapped.

Grigoriy Ordzhonikidze (1959) / Nr 103 / 4871 grt
Delivered 1959 to Far Eastern Shipping Company, mainly Nakhoda-Yokohama-Hong Kong service. Scrapped in 1992

M. Uritskiy (1959) / Nr. 104 / 4871 grt
Delivered 1959 to Far Eastern Shipping Company, regular service in the Far East. Later transferred to the Black Sea Shipping Company for regular service in the Mediterranean. Scrapped in 1996.

Vatslav Vorovskiy (1959) / Nr. 105 / 4871 grt
Delivered 1959 to Murmansk Shipping Company, mainly served to support arctic areas with material, almost never used for cruising. Scrapped in 1992

Mariya Ulyanova (1959) / Nr. 106 / 4871 grt
Delivered 1959 to Far Eastern Shipping Company, mainly regular service between Nakhoda and Hong Kong and in the Baltic Sea. Renamed in 1992 into Excelsior Mercury, planned to be rebuilt into a modern cruiseship but not realized. Scrapped in 1993.

Estoniya (1960) / Nr. 107 / 4871 grt
Delivered 1960 to Baltic Shipping Company, regular service in the Baltic Sea. Modernized in 1974 and reconstructed in 1984. It was employed for Nothern-Europe and Mediterranean cruises until the end of the 80ies under charter of Transocean Tours. After the sinking of Admiral Nakhimov 1986 withdrawn from western markets. 1993 renamed into Ekatarina II and still used for Mediterranean cruises. Scrapped in 1997.

Latviya (1960) / Nr. 108 / 5035 grt
Delivered 1960 to Baltic Shipping Company, Mediterranean and Black Sea regular-service. Refurbished in 1972. Used for cruises to Nothern Europe and the Mediterranean for German and British markets. Ran aground on 07th May 1988 next to the Yougoslavian coast and seriously damaged. Scrapped in 1995.

Vladivostok (1960) / Nr. 109 / 5035 grt
Delivered 1960 to Far Eastern Shipping Company, almost only regular service between Nakhoda and Hong Kong. Renamed into Priamurye in 1968. Completely burned out on 17th May 1988 in Osaka (11 deaths), scrapped in August 1988 in Taiwan.

Litva (1960) / Nr. 110 / 5035 grt
Delivered 1960 to Baltic Shipping Company, Mediterranean and Black Sea cruises. Refurbished in 1973. Used for cruises on the British and German markets until the end of the 80ies. Renamed Boguchar in 1990 and serving between Odessa and Istanbul. It was planned to rebuild the ship and rename her Odessa Dream (for Odessa Sun Ltd.) but plans were withdrawn. Renamed into Fu Jian in 1993 to cruise in the Far East. aquired by Green Coast Shipping Company from China in 2000 and renamed GREEN COAST (registry: Panama).

Petropavlovsk (1960) / Nr. 111 / 5035 grt
Delivered 1960 to Kamschatka Shipping Company. Regular service to the Curilles and in the Ochotskian Sea. Transferred to Far Eastern Shipping Company in the mid 80ies and renamed Bosphor. Regular service between Istanbul and Odessa as well as in the Far East. Scrapped in 1997.

Turkmeniya (1961) / Nr. 112 / 5230 grt
Delivered in 1961 to Far Eastern Shipping Company, regular service as well as cruises in various areas. Burned out on 12 November 1986 and scrapped later on.

Khabarovsk (1962) / Nr. 113 / 5230 grt
Delivered in 1962 to Far Eastern Shipping Company, mainly regular service between Nakhoda and Hong Kong. Renamed Sounds of Orients in 1990 and transferred to FESCO-daughter Pacific Cruise Company. Laid up in Vladivostok.

Nikolayevsk (1962) / Nr. 114 / 5230 grt
Delivered 1962 to Kamchatka Shipping Company. Regular service to the Curilles and in the Ochotskian Sea. Transferred to Black Sea Shipping Company in the mid 80ies. Laid up in Sotchi in 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Baykal (1962) / Nr. 115 / 5230 grt
Delivered 1962 to Far Eastern Shipping Company as the last of the 3-class ships of this series. Mainly used on the Nakhoda-Hong Kong Line, but also used for cruises in the Far East and the Black Sea. After the collapse of the Soviet Union laid up in Sotchi. Re-employed by FESCO in 2001.

Nadezhda Krupskaya (1963) Nr. 116 / 5261 grt
Delivered 1963 to Baltic Shipping Company, Mediterranean and Black Sea cruises, regular service in the Baltic Sea. Reconstructed into a troop-ship in 1967 and renamed Kuban. Scrapped in 1998.

Armeniya (1963) / Nr. 117 / 5261 grt
Delivered 1960 to Black Sea Shipping Company, Mediterranean and Black Sea cruises. Laid up in Piraeus in 1992 after a reconstruction into the modern cruiseship Odessa Spring for Odessa Sun Ltd. was not realized. Scrapped in 1995 as the Arm.

Bashkiriya (1964) / Nr. 118 / 5261 grt
Delivered 1964 to Black Sea Shipping Company, various employments in the Arctic Sea and as a hotelship. Planned to reconstruct the ship into a navy-vessel but it was not realized. Modernized and completely reconstructed in Perama in 1992, renamed Odessa Song (Odessa Sun Ltd.). New name Royal Dream in 1997, as from June 1998 cruising as the Silver Star (name of BLASCO-owners changed between Odessa Cruise Company, Hellenic Star Cruises to Silver Star Shipping as it is today). The ship is chartered to Mano Maritime Ltd. and cruising in the Mediterranean Sea.

Adzhariya (1964) / Nr. 119 / 5261 grt
Delivered 1964 to Black Sea Shipping Company as the last unit of this series. Mediterranean and Black Sea cruises as well as regular services. Scrapped in 1996.

All ships of this series were build at the Mathias Thesen Werft (MTW) in Wismar / Germany.
