Leonid Sobinov (1954) / Nr. 692 / 21637 grt
Delivered in 1954 as Saxonia for Cunard Line, employed between Liverpool and Montreal. As of 1957 serving between Southampton and Montreal, as from 1961 between Liverpool and New Yord. Reconstructed in 1963 and renamed Carmania. Employed only for cruises as from 1967. Laid up in 1971, sold to Black Sea Shipping Company in 1973 and renamed Leonid Sobinov. Ofter used for troop-transports, later for worldwide cruises on western European markets. Operated for Russian passengers as from 1986 after the sinking of the Admiral Nakhimov. Transferred to Transorient Overseas Ltd in 1990 and placed under Maltese register. Used for low-budget cruises on Russian and Ukrainian market. Laid up in Ilychevsk in 1995. Scrapped in Alang / India in October 1999 when arriving there on own power.
Fedor Shaljapin (1955) / Nr. 693 / 21717 grt
Delivered as Ivernia to Cunard Line. Employed between Liverpool and Montreal, as from 1957 between Southampton and Montreal. Refurbished in 1963 and renamed Franconia. As from 1970 only employed for cruises, laid up in 1971. Sold to the Black Sea Shipping Company in 1973, renamed Fedor Shaljapin. Used for troop-transports, later employed for worldwide cruising. Withdrawn from western European market after 1986, employed only on the Russian / Ukrainian market. Placed under Maltese flag and transferred to Odessa Cruise Company. Used for low-budget cruises. Laid up in Ilychesvk in 1996. Remains there until today but it is expected that the ship will be scrapped soon.
Maksim Gorkiy (1969) / Nr. 997 / 25022 grt
Delivered in 1969 to Deutsche Atlantik Linie as the Hamburg. Used as a cruiseship. Renamed Hanseatic in 1973 and laid up in Hamburg shortly after. Sold to Sovcomflot in 1974 and managed by Black Sea Shipping Company, renamed Maksim Gorkiy. Chartered to Neckermann Seereisen for German passengers. Refurbished in 1988 and chartered to Phoenix Reisen. Collision with an iceberg on 19th June 1989 near Spitzbergen, later repaired at Lloyd Werft. In 1991 placed under Bahama-flag, management taken over by Prestige Cruises (Sovcomflot & Costa cruises), transferred to Sovcomflot-daughter Maxim Gorkiy Ltd.. In December 1992 the management was taken over by Unicom Shipmanagement Services (Sovcomflot & Acomarit), transferred to Belata Shipping Company (Sovcomflot). Between 1998 and 2001 managed through Lothian Shipmanagement Services, now back with Unicom again, ownership transferred to Maxim Gorkiy Ltd. again. Still chartered to Phoenix Reisen.
Iliych (1973) / Nr. 1199 / 8528 grt
Delivered as Bore I to Bore Lines, ferry-servive between Stockholm and Turku. Transferred to Silja Line in 1980 (owned by Effjohn International), renamed Skandia. Transferred to Stena Line in 1983, shortly named Stena Baltica, sold to Baltic Shipping Company in October 1983 and renamed Iliych. After refurbishment in 1984 ferry-service between Leningrad, Helsinki and Stockholm (ScanSov Line). As from 1991 From St. Petersburg and Riga to Stockholm and NynÄshamn under charter of Baltic Line (Effjohn Group). At the End of 1995 arrested in Stockholm. Transferred to Baltic Shipping Line (Cyprus) and renamed Anastasia V. Planned to be employed between Kiel, Riga and St. Petersburg but not realized. Instead employed in the Caribbean as the Windward Pride under charter to Windward Lines, register Barbados. After a few months back to the Baltic Sea. In 1998 acquired by Estonian Shipping Company and employed for Tallink between Tallinn and Stockholm as Baltic Kristina. Chartered to Riga Sea Line in October 2002.
Odessa (1974) / Nr. 1085 / 13758 grt
Delivered as Copenhagen for A/S Nordline in 1974 (originally planned to be named Prins Henrik af Denmark) but never taken over. Sold to Black Sea Shipping Company in 1975 and renamed Odessa. Chartered to Transocean Tours for 22 years and operating on the German market. In April 1995 arrested in Naples. BLASCO reaches to save the ship from auction. In 1999 transferred to Transorient Overseas Ltd. (Golden Globe Shipping Company), renamed Odessa I, new register is St. Vincent, still laid up. The ship remains in good inside condition at the same berth at the entrance of Naples harbour. On 26th April 2001 again Ukrainian register and renamed Odessa (owner still BLASCO). Sold to Bowline S.A. Luxembourg on 06th April 2002, managing company is JSC Antarktika. Ship town to Odessa in October 2002. Shifted to Ukraina Shipyard drydock for inspection of the hull and determine refurbishment costs. The ship shall start cruising again in August 2003.
Ayvazovskiy (1976) / Nr. 144 / 7127 grt
Delivered to Soviet Danube Shipping Company in 1977. Mainly used for cruises in the Black Sea in combination with the line's river cruises on the Danube. In 1992 under Ukrainian flag. Used for cruises in several areas. Chartered to Phoenix Reisen in 1996, renamed Carina (originally Bella Maris was planned). Due to the crisis in Turkey, cruises were withdrawn and the ship chartered by Primexpress Tours for Russian passengers, renamed Primexpress Island. Ownership transferred to Multiway Shipping Company. Charter with Primexpress was ceased a few months later and the ship was laid up in Limassol. It is still open what will happen and if the ship will be reemployed in combination with Danube cruises again. The remains in excellent condition.
Fedor Dostoevskiy (1987) / Nr. 218 / 20606 grt
Originally ordered by Safmarine as a replacement for sistership Astor but due to the political situation in South Africa the ship was delivered to Marlan Corporation of Mauritius as Astor II in 1987. Chartered to Morgan Leisure, the ship operated for British passengers. Sold to Sovcomflot in October 1988 and renamed Fedor Dostoevskiy, managed by Black Sea Shipping Company, chartered to Neckermann Seereisen. 1991 placed under Bahama-flag and management transferred to Prestige Cruises (Sovcomflot & Costa Cruises). At the end of 1992 the management was transferred to Unicom Shipmanagement (Sovcomflot & Acomarit). Sovcomflot established Fedor Dostoevskiy Ltd. as a new owner until 1995. Then chartered by Aquamarin Cruises and renamed Astor (Fedor Dostoevskiy Ltd was renamed astor Shipping Company Ltd.). Management transferred to Unicom-daughter Poetto Shipmanagement in 1998 (today operating as Passat Shipmanagement Services) and chartered to Transocean Tours. Still owned by Sovcomflot today.
