Date of Trip: December 19, 1999
Itinerary: Caribbean - Southern
The Carousel is not a ship I would ever go on again. The smell of raw sewage is the first thing that you notice when being taken to your room. Numerous spills of sewage have left the smell in carpets that cannot be removed. We also feel that this is a health safety issue, that has to be addressed by the authorities. It is a very old ship, very old, and for this kind of ship the cruise is overpriced. The captain is not concerned about the comfort or impressions of the passengers.
Public areas were kept clean. But the smell of raw sewage was always present especially on our deck, main deck. Casino very small but clean. Walk-around on decks was good. lounges were O.K. but nothing great.
Food in the dinning room was good, greatly enhanced by the wait staff.
Buffets, were O.K. but most of the time the food was not very warm, & had left overs served from the night before made up a little different.
Late night buffets in dinning room were spectacular. They were really great.
Christmas dinner was very, very poor, as staff given day off & it was buffet style, this one not so great. This was very, very disappointing.
Cabins are very, very old. Decor was old an shabby. First impression of room was very disappointing in regard to appearance. Closet space was adequate. Bathroom very small, you could fit in shower but not move very much.
Sound proofing very poor, could hear people on one side all the time, what they where saying, opening & closing of drawers & doors.
Entertainment was certainly not great but the staff of productions did try. The best entertainment was given by our wait staff during meals. Cabin staff was very friendly & kept cabin clean.
Tequila Sunrise Cruise-Christmas 1999. Left from Cozumel, on to Puerto Cortes Honduras, Roatan Bay Island, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios Jamaica, Calica back to Cozumel.
First port Honduras, not fit to take passengers. This is not a docking facility for cruise ship passengers. I was mugged not 5 mins. from ship. Crew & captain not very concerned about event. Roatan Bay Island, captain said conditions too rough to go ashore, most passenger disagreed.
Ocho Rios, not a safe port, our ship docked at a loading dock for freighters, not where other cruise ships were.
Calica, out in the middle of nowhere. Not impressed with the itinerary or the tours that were offered, as most were not as stated on any information sheets.
Complaints were not addressed when mentioned.
Pool never looked clean. Always had a film on top of water. Did not use. Health club very small.
A mix of English, Americans, Canadians. All age groups. Yes, on a whole everybody was very friendly
