Date of Trip: July 8 2002
Itinerary: Mediterranean
We have now been on all of the Airtours (or MyTravel as it is now called) ships and would rank Seawing as our least favourite. It is still a pleasant ship with good service and entertainment - but what lets it down is the severe lack of space for the number of passengers - especially deck space.
Almost every bit of deck space is covered with sun loungers, which are fastened together side-by-side in great long lines. As the loungers are pushed right against the ship railing it is very difficult to stand and look over the side (as many people want to do when the ship is docking or departing).
Food in the dining room was of a good quality.
Our 4 berth cabin was on small side for 2 adults + children - but how much time do you send there anyway?
The evening shows were of a good quality - the daytime entertainment was a bit too much 'hi-di-hi' holiday camp for our liking.
The brochure fails to mention that the Aegean Adventure cruise (which includes Istanbul) travels 1800 miles - so many of the stops are only for 1/2 day. This was a disappointment to us and, with so much more time than usual spent at sea, lack of deck space was an increased problem.
The kids club was available for 3-4 hours each day. Our boys (8 & 11) enjoyed going - but it seemed to us that most time was sent watching vidoes etc.
Wide variety of passengers - about 1/3rd Scandinavian (with Deputy Cruise director also from Scandinavia). An awful lot of passengers we talked to seemed to have booked a last minute discounted deal.
