Itinerary: Caribbean - Southern
For our first time cruising, this ship was wonderful. Although
it is not as luxuriously appointed as some other cruise ships, it was excellent value for the money.
The public areas were never too crowded. The main pool area
was nicely set up in that you could sit right by the pool side in the sun,
or just outside in a covered area providing a view of the sea or the pool.
The lounges were ample enough that we never had a problem finding a place to
sit for the evening shows. The casino is small but adequate.
The food was generally very good. Standard breakfast
buffets were served in the dining room or on the Lido deck. The breakfast
times were for the most part fine, but on a couple of days ended quite early
at 9 am, which is a little early if you have been up partying. A baguette
lunch could be obtained that could be taken off ship if going on a tour.
Dinners were wonderful with loads of courses and choices, something for
everyones taste. The midnight buffets were good, with the gala buffet being
absolutely spectacular. Service was superb, the waiters can't do enough for
you.
We had a premium outside cabin, 2nd deck from the bottom and at the
back of the ship. Very small but adequate with plenty of storage space.
Bathrooms were small but okay except the shower was very tiny (difficult to
shave your legs ladies!) Never heard a single noise in the ajoining rooms
or corrider but that could be because we were to the far end of the ship
which would cut down significantly on the corrider traffic.
We attended a show every night after dinner and found all of
them to be quite good. Because we smoke, we had to sit right at the back of
the lounges in the smoking areas but still had unobstructed views. The
cruise director was good and the entertainers were as well.
For those that don't go ashore, there are limited activites on
board during the day. Usually a few poolside activities but mostly people
lay around in the sun. We stopped in Barbados, St. Lucia, Grenada, Curaco
and Curacao. We were supposed to stop at Margarita but the ship lost it's
docking port (why?) so they stopped in Curaco, Venezeula instead. The
excursions are expensive and you must use discretion in chosing one. It is
far less expensive to hire a taxi at the port. Venezeula was a
disappointment. Somewhat dangerous with plenty of pickpockets and thieves.
We were told to take off all of our jewellery and hide passports before
leaving the port area. Great shopping on the pier though.
There was a variety in age, but not alot of kids and teenagers.
Mostly 40's to 50's and primarily UK and Canadian. We got along very well
with our tablemates at dinner.
