Itinerary: Mediterranean
As this was our first cruise, we did not really know what to expect. Once on board we were very pleased. It was truly wonderful the itinerary was well brilliant apart from not getting into Bizerte, although it has had rubbish reviews anyhow. Food was unbelievable and the staff on the ship made our holiday that little more special. They were always happy greeting us with a smile. We had a truly wonderful time and will most certainly be going aboard again in the very near future especially as we won #1500 on the Bingo. With lots to do or simply do nothing but eat and soak up the atmosphere, we will recommend anyone to try the Sunbird cruises, they will enjoy every minute.
The public areas were well kept always clean with plenty of room for everyone. We never felt crowded. Slight problem with the sun loungers and towels, but they have a directive now to remove towels and personal property if the sun bed had not been used for over 20 minutes. Some people didn't like to come back after an hour and find someone else on 'their' sun bed. All the lounges were nice to sit in on an evening and take a watch the shows or listen to the band play.
The food was not as expected but better, far better. If you could open a restaurant with the same service you would get rich very quickly. We ate in the seven seas every night and had lunch between the Lido and the seven seas. The company was good and the waiters fantastic, always happy to serve you and always greeting you with a smile.
We stayed on deck 3 with two single beds shower room, cupboard, dresser, safe deposit box, there was more than enough room. We slept very well and did not hear any noise from any other passengers. Shah our cabin steward always kept the cabin clean and tidy. Some people complain that the cabins are small, I don't know what they are used to, but we found it fine, anyhow all we did was sleep in it and get changed. there was far too much going on to be in there any longer. We had an outside cabin.
The entertainment was great with cabaret shows and live music to listen to,a great orchestra, and if you fancied something tamer there was the clipper bar with live pianist. We had a comedian who was very funny and John Cortnay a magician/comedian, fantastic . We went for a small flutter in the casino, not something we are used to but i won #25 on the roulette, and my wife dropped #100 on the slots. We rounded the week off with the big bingo win of #1500.
Didn't go in to Bizerte, but not bothered. Went to Rome on the independent trip and saw plenty, but rome too big for a day. Went to Florence and Pisa on the combined tour. Tour of florence with the florentine guide was a waste of time and we ditched her after 5 minutes and did our own thing. The bus guide was a gem. Pisa was superb. Did our own thing to Monaco from Villefrance , train was only 4.5 Euros return ant the trains run every half hour. Did our own thing in Barcelona. The trips are there for anyone if you want them otherwise do your own thing.
Brits, Scandinavians, Canadians and a few Americans. Met lots and lots of very nice people and have exchanged addresses. There were 2 scandinavian blokes on board who were on unlimited drinks. I think the were drunk the whole seven days. At one time they were eating their evening meal with their hands. I hope that this isn't going to be a regular thing.
