Itinerary: Mediterranean
We have just returned from a back to back cruise on the Sunbird, we would highly recommend this cruise to anyone, the ship is wonderful and the ports that we visited were superb.
The Sunbird is a really comfortable and friendly ship, the public areas were very clean and comfortable, there were no rooms on board that we disliked, in fact the one we enjoyed the most was the Chart Room which is situated just underneath the ship's funnels. There is a walk-around promenade and there are two pools, we used to sit on the sun deck just above the pool deck, but you could easily go down to the pools if you wanted a swim. The casino was very good, larger than I imagined it to be.
Well what can I say here except EXCELLENT!! The food was marvellous. There is one restaurant called "The Seven Seas" which runs into the Galileo restaurant, the food and service here was absolutely superb. You were treated like royalty by every member of the staff. There was also a buffet on deck which was also very good.
Our cabin was very good, it was a reasonable size and had a double wardrobe and single wardrobe, plenty of hangers and space for storage. The shower was fine, I would imagine that if a person was very large they may have difficulty as it was rather cramped. Our cabin was a standard inside in the forward part of the ship and we did not notice any noise at all. Some people who had their cabins in the aft part of the ship did complain about the vibration from the engines.
We attended all the shows in the Can Can Lounge which is the main lounge for the evening cabaret shows. The Sunbird production cast were magnificent and the cabaret acts that we saw were also brilliant. The cruise director was exceptionally good and so were all his staff. They made sure that you enjoyed yourself.
There were many activities during the day, these ranged from line dancing, shuffle board, bridge, tours of the bridge, knapkin folding, horse racing, pool deck quiz, demonstrations of ice carving and fruit and vegetable carving.
As we did a back to back cruise we visited many ports - Corsica, Cittavecchia, Ville Franche, Barcelona, Scicily, Malta, Menorca, Naples, Tunis etc. The tours which were offered on all of these trips were very good, you had a choice of 3 tours at each destination, full days and half day trips. In all we went on 7 trips over the 2 weeks.
As we were on the ship for 2 weeks, we had different dinner guests each week.
If you have breakfast and lunch in the restaurant you are on open-sitting, and when you have got your meal you are shown to a table with other guests, I felt this was a good way to meet different people each time you sat down to eat.
In the evening you have your own table and your regular dinner guests, we had a variety of people from all over the UK and from all walks of life, we got on very well with all of them.
