Itinerary: Caribbean - Eastern
Our family of four had a memorable vacation. We wanted a worry free, fun time with some interesting places to see and felt this was great value. Only wish we had gone for two weeks...one is not long enough!
We enjoyed walking around the deck though sometimes it's closed at one end and it can be very windy at night when at sea. We checked out all rooms, casino etc. but spent most of our time in the Can Can lounge for evening shows, the Oklahoma lounge for other fun entertainment and around the pools. As we had been warned, people had all sun beds 'reserved' by 8:00 am so we never got to use any near the pool but found our best spot was the centre table in the raised deck between the pools. We could keep an eye on our son (9) whichever pool he was playing in and also have a good view of the pool deck when the band or other stuff was happening. Also, there was a big umbrella over each table to shade you.
We found the food and service very good. We had early seating and often we weren't even hungry but the food was delicious and the choices amazing so it always perked up our appetites. Our son got extra special treatment for his 'fussy' tastebuds- James, the head waiter provided a menu each night for the following evening so we could choose something he would like from it that could be prepared 'plain'. Narciso was a sweetie, making origami animals for us and gentle yet efficient service. Ronald taught us how to make cool napkins! We preferred breakfast and lunch at the Lido cafe as it was more relaxing and the choices were fine for us.
We had two inside cabins and we were quite happy with them. We had been upgraded by our TA to the main deck so it was easy for the kids to go back to our cabin after dinner or whatever. They found their way around very fast. Our daughter (14) and son shared the cabin right across from us. We would just knock to wake them up in the morning. The steward was pretty awesome too- I don't know how he cleaned up so fast! Early morning was a little noisy with sounds of ice buckets being filled right outside the door etc. but the size and storage space were perfect and the beds comfortable. We slept well.
We went to almost all the shows. Loved the Sunbird cast in all their shows. They are very talented and have fabulous costumes. Tucker the comedy act was very funny- unfortunately missed his late night show. Lesley Spencer, the cruise director did a great job and was very prompt in replying to a personal request for a poem she read one night. We would rate the cast a '5'. My daughter and I enjoyed the deck parties and group dancing.
We were happy to have two days at sea- there was always lots to do and we actually never got around to some things we had planned on doing! Too busy eating and having fun! Loved St. Maartin, Adored Catalina Island and found Santo Domingo interesting. Tortola a bit of a letdown...
Our son went to the kids club daily and was alway looking forward to it. They gather the kids for about 4 hours at different times, do crafts, scavenger hunts, disco, food night, sand castle contests etc.. It was great that they took them each evening after dinner so we could go to the show. Lisa and Anne Marie did a terrific job.
We had about 50/50 Canadians and Brits. Everyone got along, young and old. Would like to see some again if we got the chance.
