Itinerary: Caribbean - Western
We cruised in November 1998. My husband and I were married aboard the ship (prior to departure, in Fort Lauderdale). Our experience on this ship was excellent. With all the hype about cruises, it was hard to imagine what to expect. Our expectations were met and then some. The staff was very personable and very helpful. It is a honeymoon that we will never forget. Nor, would be change our mind to cruise on this ship if we could do it over again. It was fantastic.
The public areas were wonderful. The lounges were great!
They provided a variety of music (in each of the lounges). The theatre was
excellent (we really liked the seating). The pool area is roomy and we
never had a problem of finding a chair to lounge in.
The food was excellent, better than we expected. Our wait staff was excellent! My husband and I went with high expectations and we definitely were not disappointed. It was well worth the money. The main dining room was a wonderful experience.
Our cabin was on deck 8 (outside cabin). It was very roomy (more room than we expected. There was plenty of closet space. I have a lot of clothes and shoes (I took 10 pair) and we unpacked all of our suitcase and even had closet space to put our suitcases in. Keep in mind that we also traveled with a wedding dress, train, tux etc. I think we had more luggage than an average person would bring.
The entertainment was excellent. We attended a show every night.
The itinerary was excellent (lot's of fun!). When we return to
do the Western Caribbean, we will go to Calica instead of Jamaica. It was
wonderful to go to Dunn's River Fall's, however we have experienced it and
have many fond memories (of the falls) but we will never return to Jamaica
again. It was a very scary place to be. The people were intimidating
(especially right at the boat dock). It was my husband and I, if I was with
a girlfriend, I would have probably turned around and got back on the ship.
If you travel to Jamaica, I would highly recommend not wearing any of your
expensive jewelery. As I said, we just got married, but I left my diamond
ring on the ship in our cabin safe. The rest of the itinerary was
excellent. We loved Grand Cayman (excellent snorkeling) and loved Cozumel
(excellent shopping). The people in Grand Cayman and Cozumel were very
friendly and made you feel very comfortable.
Our fellow passengers were a lot of fun. We met a lot of nice
people and continue to keep in contact with about 4 - 5 couples. The people
on the ship were excellent people. We were known as the wedding couple.
Many passengers that we didn't know stopped us and asked if they could take
our picture (wedding dress and tux). The rest of the week we would be
walking around the ship and people would approach us and congratulate us.
It was wonderful. We met a couple from Scotland and plan to give them an
open invitation to our home. We made arrangements to meet one or two of the
couples in a lounge every night before dinner. The age group was mixed,
however most couples fell into our age group (30 - 40).
