Date of Trip: June 19, 2004
Itinerary: Baltic/Black Sea/Russia
Upon leaving the ship at Stockholm, we were sent on a bus to the airport without so much as coffee before departure. Our flight wasn't until early afternoon, but we had to exit around 7:00 AM. It was a quick brush-off. There was no kitchen staff to provide even pastries for those departing.
There were many bars, some with two names (the martini bar). Everyone of the staff pushed drinks as a main source of revenues. The pianist aboard was outstanding. saw two of his shows and bought all three of his CDs. One comedian from the smoker bar area had shows in the theater. He was awful!!
We usually gain weight on a cruise. With this 14 day cruise we had no weight to lose upon our return. The beef was particularly tough, except for filets. A previous cruise on the Century had excellent food and preparation.
The cabin was generally good. However, only one person could fit between the bed and the wall/walkway. We had cabin 9124 with a balcony. The concierge class cabin had no butler as was the case on the Century. We won't travel on a Celebrity ship again.
We attended several shows. The female singer was quite good. The dancers were typical hoofers. as mentioned above the pianist was outstanding.
The ports of call along the Baltic were very interesting. Our first visit to Russia was very impressive. Souvenirs there were reasonably priced. The Hermitage Museum made lasting impression on us. Tallin too was impressive in a contrasting way.
This was a mix. At out table were a retired ambassador and his wife and a plumber and his family. The ambassador and his wife were very intelligent and interesting. We had several meaningful conversations.
