Celebrity Cruise Line

MV Mercury

Your Rating:Four Stars

Date of Trip: February 9, 2004
Itinerary: Mexico-Western

Overview
The Mercury is an very good 4 Stars and an Plus Ship. Food in the Dining Room was tasty and of an very high Standard. Buffets for Lunch and Breakfast some repetitive. Mexican Riviera from San Diego to Acapulco is very interesting, here are not so much Cruise ships on the Way than in the Caribbean, this is an Advantage.

Ports of Call very nice. Service and Crew very good. Celebrity is the Cruise line of my first Choice.

Public Areas
Pool Area very spacious and always in good Condition. 4 Whirlpools outside, 2 Swimming Pools outside, one big Pool inside under Magrodome. Nice Show Lounge over 2 Decks. Very good Shops, Bars, Casino, Public Rooms. There is an walk around Promenade. Many of Deck chairs, you do not feel, that the Ship was nearly sold out. Friendly and very experienced Staff, who was working always well.

Excellent Manager for Captains Club Members MANUEL GRAUWE from Belgium, the best i ever seen. He speaks 8 Languages and is round the Day serving, speaking to Passengers and very successful in selling Future Cruises.

The Company expects from him 100000 Dollars an Month to sell and he sells more than half an Million each Month. Excellent International Hostess ROSI KELLNER from Germany, who had an special look on all German, Swiss and Austrian Guests, together 12 out of 1750. The Rest was predominant US Citizens. I got an lot of Private Invitations as an Elite Member of the Company, including Dinner with the very nice Chief Engineer GEORGIOS MYLONAKIS.

Food and Service
The Food in the Dining Room as the Service are great, special Orders out of the Menu never an Problem and always done excellent without any extra Charge. Sushi Bar in the Evening. Special Restaurant in the Evening for Casual Dining. Fresh baked Pizza and Pasta from Noon to 1 in the Night, always working. Hot Dogs and Hamburger Station from Noon to 6. Frozen Yoghurt Station Buffets for Breakfast and Lunch every Day. Plenty of Juice, Ice Tea and Coffee Stations for free. Fruit Buffet and Party outside one Night. Great Grand Buffet on the second Last Night in the Dining Room. Food is more tasty than on some other Ships in the past, also it is the same Menu.

Cabins
Quiet Inside Cabin on Deck 9 Forward. Very well equipped and spacy. Service in the Cabin always very good.

Entertainment
Great Mexican Show in Acapulco, performed by an Mexican Folklore Group of International Reputation on Board. The normal Show Programme of an Standard, which is good, but it is on American Taste. This is for me an Disadvantage of cruising with this Company. Our American fellow Passengers found the Programme great. My Wife and i did not attend often. We do not need much Entertainment on an Cruise Ship, so we often spend the Evenings Private.

Activities
We stopped at Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Ixtapa, Manzanillo. We did always Excursions on our own with two other German Couples, so it was very interesting and cheap. Did not book any Excursion with the Company. Aqua Spa on Board is expensive, i did not use it, but it is not necessary, the other Facilities are very good and enough of them.

Destinations are very interesting, i would recommend the Mexican Riviera better as the Caribic Islands, which often are very crowded of an lot of Passengers. On small Grand Cayman, for example, you can have up to 11 big Cruise Ships the same Day and all must tender their Passengers. This is not so nice.

Who Goes
The Germans on Board wi did our Excursions with them are very nice People and we enjoyed the Time with them, also are the 3 American Couples on our Table. Atmosphere was always very good. I would invite them all.
