Itinerary: Caribbean - Western
Our cruise was nicely accommodating, and the ship is awesome to
behold. If you like splendor and things on a grand scale this is the way to
go. We had a much better time on Carnivals smaller ships, with less people
the company seems more organized.
The public areas are excellent, a large walk around promenade
takes you around all areas. It is fairly easy to find your way around.
The main pool area is not very accommodating for a lot of people, because of
it's tier design. The casino is huge and is we could find a table whenever
we wanted one.
The food service was one of the reasons we gave the cruise
such a poor rating. The service for us was horrible, I have had better
service from some stateside diners. I know this is not the norm, we have
traveled with Carnival on two other occasions and received fantastic
service. The food was OK not great, not bad.
Our cabin was very nicely appointed with plenty of space to spread
out. Since most cabins on the Destiny have balconies we decided to book a
room with one. I highly recommend spending the extra for the balcony,
listening to the ocean sing you to sleep is very relaxing. The bathroom was
large enough to accommodate a tall adult, and we had three full closets, and
two dressers to store our clothes. Since we were on the highest passenger
deck our room was very quiet and free from noise.
Excellent entertainment, Carnival does not cut corners in
this department. We attended most of the shows, when we were finished with
dinner in time(see above about Dining).
On board activities never left us looking for something to do.
We did, however, find this ship less organized than their smaller ships.
Some outdoor dining activities were so busy it took us longer to get our
food than to eat it. Our itinerary was Puerto Rico, St. Croix, and St.
Thomas, the itinerary was excellent at both St. Croix and St. Thomas. Be
aware that since the ship is so big you may have to wait in long lines to
get a bus to take you to your island activities. The ship arrived in Puerto
Rico almost two hours early, but we wasted that time waiting in line for a
bus to take us on our city tour. This also happened to us in St. Croix when
there was no transportation to return us to the ship after our snorkeling.
Fellow passengers are the best part of any trip, since on all the
cruises my wife and I have been on we have met good friends, some of which
we still speak to regularly. We always meet good friendly people on our
cruises with Carnival, and if you like to party this is the trip to take.
