Carnival Cruise Line

MS Carnival Freedom

Itinerary: Mediterranean

Overview
A great itinerary, great entertainment and good food. If you can ignore the ridiculous decor and bad layout of this ship then put yourself in party mood and have a great time.

Public Areas
Laid out the same as Carnival's other large ships, this isn't the easiest to get around. The decor is 'freedom through the ages' and combines fun, gaudy and tacky in equal measure in most places. But who can fail to be impressed by the soaring atrium, or Studio 70 - a superb disco nightclub.

Food and Service
Carnival food is amongst the best of the major lines in my experience. Signature dishes by their in house chef Georges Blanc were always good, and service was excellent at my table. A buffet with countless options, pizza places, grills, you will never go hungry aboard such a ship.

Cabins
$ for $ this cabin (balcony, deck 9) was one of the best value accommodations I have ever had. A substantial balcony, cabin with seating area, plentiful wardrobe. All well organized with more than adequate storage space.

My major complaint on board the Freedom was the noise in our room. We were located close to the outdoor movie/pool area. The volume of the sound system was way too loud for people on deck and nearly as loud inside our room. It ruined our afternoon naps on sailing days.

Entertainment
Carnival has probably the best broadway style shows afloat, good headline entertainers and a broad range of options from piano bar, through Karaoke and dancing and the 70's disco. The trademark TV show style silly deck games add to the chance to embarrass yourself if you are so inclined.

Activities
Calling ar Rome, Naples, Rhodes, Izmir, Istanbul, Athens, Katakolon (Olympia)Livorno (Florence/ Pisa), this is a cruise through history and ancient civilizations. Some decent excursion choices for first time visitors. Several onboard pools, a big spa and lots to do.

Who Goes
A surprisingly older crowd, reflecting the higher price, longer duration and school holiday time of this cruise. Very few children onboard.
