Itinerary: Caribbean Western
Yes, if the price is right the Sensation is as good as any. We had a ball, who wouldn't. one weeks sun or one weeks snow...... The ship was clean, our room was beautiful (we received an upgrade to main deck ocean view) the crew were friendly and the passengers were fine ( too many university students but we knew that before we went it is March break after all!!)
The public areas were fine. The casino was huge and was really open so the smoke was not bad at all considering it was packed full every night. the Sensation has two pools and three hot tubs. We did not get to use the pools at all and only went into the hot tub once. The university kids hogged the pool and tubs which made it uncomfortable to use them, when someone went into the pool or tubs the kids would all cheer, if you had a few drinks you probably didn't mind this!! The kids were fine they weren't rude or anything if anything they were very friendly and helpful to people. That's what I meant when I said price being right I'd go on this ship again. If I could afford it I would go when the kids are still in school. We enjoyed the Mirage lounge, we would go there for "Happy Hour" We enjoyed "High Tea" in Michelangelo's Lounge. We were keen to see "A Touch of Class" but it was always full and it was very smoky" ( The room where the seats are hands) The Fantasy Lounge was huge and could hold 100s of people, we enjoyed a few shows there. The gym was awesome as big as our gym at the "Y". The Sensation has a walking track lots off people used it.
The food in the Ecstasy dining room was okay. I'm not complaining about it but sometimes I thought they worried more about what it looked like than what it tasted like. We had lobster one night and I was looking forward to it so much, I was very disappointed. It was rubbery and had no taste at all. I had to order again and I got the Prime rib which was excellent. The breakfast on the Lido deck was awesome, that's why I put on 8 pounds!!!! A great selection Bacon, sausage, potatoes, eggs, fruit, toast, pancakes, french toast, cereal. lunch was okay we had burgers or pasta,or salad there was a good selection. we had lunch on the Lido deck we did not go to the dining room. We also enjoyed the 24 hour pizza and ice cream/frozen yogurt.
Our cabin was awesome (the only other cruise we have been on was the Bolero, the cabin there was like a box compared to this one) We had booked the cheapest cabin on the lowest deck we got an upgrade to Main deck ocean view. It was beautiful, lovely and clean lots of lights and the most comfortable bed any of us and ever slept in, no kidding!!! Loads of closet and drawer space, a huge bathroom, and a wonderful large window. we were in heaven you almost wish you had more time to spend in the cabin. It was very very quiet.
The shows that we saw were very good. we saw a comedian who had us cracking up. we saw an magician who was awesome. We watched a couple of game shows and talent shows that were preformed by the passengers and they were amazing. talented people on that cruise.
The on board activities on sea days were fun but we just watched. Things like picking a "Tarzan and Jane" or the hairy chest contest were a riot. I talked about the gym earlier. Our itinerary was great. We went to Hell, The Turtle Farm and Stingray City in Grand Cayman. Hell was okay, it really isn't very much but we enjoyed eating pictures taken and buying a tee-shirt. The Turtle farm was interesting but the highlight by far of the whole cruise was Stingray city. What an amazing experience.. I am a limited swimmer and I loved it. Don't be put off this tour just because you don't swim very well even a non-swimmer could enjoy it. Be ready to be terrified, in awe and then terrified all over again in the first few minutes. This tour is an absolute must. We went snorkeling again in Cozumel ( I had never snorkeled before and I loved it)Had lots of Margaritas to drink and then went shopping A great day. We did our own thing in New Orleans. We went to Cafe Dumonde and had benets ( not spelt right I'm sure )and coffee Yummy We had Hurricanes on a patio over looking Bourbon street while a Jazz band played on the corner. and we shopped in the French Quarter Market. Oh the memories!!
Boy what a mix of ages on this cruise. We had a little baby on board who was about three months old and a couple who I bet were in their 80s. We had bikers, university kids yuppies and people who looked like they belonged in California (movie star types) and then there was little old us!! We had lovely people at our table They were both flight attendants with Air Canada and their son was 15 our kids hit it off right away. We would certainly invite them over to our home as a matter of fact they did invite us to their home in Vancouver.
