Itinerary: Alaska-Inside Passage

Overview
I have always wanted to see Alaska, but was not enthused about the idea of a cruise. The Yorktown Clipper not only was the ideal way to see the Inside Passage, but was an amazing experience in itself. I have never been so relaxed or had a better vacation.

Public Areas
The only large public areas were the lounge and dining room. The lounge was comfortable and perfect for a ship this size. The promenade is narrow, no walking two abreast, but devoted passengers had no problem getting their walking laps done. No pool, no casino.

Food and Service
The food was absolutely amazing with a good variety - especially the desserts and pastries. Buffets are offered at breakfast and lunch, but I preferred service in the dining room (one dining room; one seating). Appetizers at cocktail hour were also excellent. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Cabins
The cabin was small, but quiet. The storage space was ample. I am incapable of packing light, but had no storage problems. A full size person can fit in the shower, but it's certainly not roomy.

Entertainment
Entertainment consisted of lectures and movies. The lectures were very interesting. I didn't actually attend any movies because I was busy socializing or watching the wildlife.

Activities
The focus of the cruise was experiencing Alaska and its wildlife. Most of the time on board was spent watching glaciers and waterfalls and scoping out the wildlife. We stopped at Sitka, Petersburg and Ketchikan. Tours were offered at Sitka and Petersburg, the jet boat tour in Petersburg was excellent. No children were on this cruise and the ship is not at all child friendly.

Who Goes
Of the 113 passengers on board, most were over 50 with many over 60. There were a handful of passengers in their 20s, 30s and 40s. I am in my thirties and found my fellow passengers to be delightful company. I would definitely invite them for dinner at my home.
