Itinerary: Transatlantic
The overall experience we had aboard the QE 2 was first -rate. We hardily recommend anyone taking the QE 2 transatlantic for a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
The public areas were very comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the ambience of the Queen's Lounge. Only negative areas were Chart Room and Casino and that only because of smoking in those areas.
The food and service in the Mauretania restaurant were outstanding. Great selection. Great service and attention to detail. Less formal but also convenient were the Pavilion and the Lido for those preferring a simpler meal.
Our cabin on 5 deck was very comfortable. One bed was slightly shorter than the other so we switched beds on the return voyage (we had the same cabin both going to and returning from England.) There was a good bit of noise from the engine and sea rushing by but we both slept better on the return voyage.
The entertainment was absolutely superb. Wonderful dancers, comedians, violinist, concert pianists plus, on the way over, great lecturers by John Cleese about making the series "Fawlty Towers" and "A Fish Called Wanda".
There is so much to do one is never bored. Movies, lectures, dance lessons, concerts, shows, gymnasium, pools, everything one could want including shopping in the onboard shopping mall.
Our fellow passengers were all types. We made several new friends and felt at home with everyone onboard.
