Overview
The QE2 is a lovely ship - an oldie but a goodie... I give her 4 stars because of a few minor flaws in the interior maintenance and the smoke in public rooms for smokers. Other then that it was a 5 star cruise.

Public Areas
There are three promenades really - one on open deck and one around Upper Deck and Quarter Deck - covered by large picture windows. QE2 being older has the entertainment decks at the top, something I rather like. Crystal Bar fantastic but chair arms tattered and need replacing. When asking about this I was told "They don't replace old chairs at Buckingham Palace so we don't here" - not at all amusing when you pay $XX,XXX for the cruise - FIX THE CHAIRS CUNARD.

All in all, Lovely rooms... my problem is with smoke... You would think with a ship that is 105 feet wide you could escape it, but no... QE2 should have a smoking lounge like that seen on the Edwardian liners (Aquitania / Olympic etc.)

Food and Service
Food and Service - very nice. This is my 3rd QE2 cruise (all others were on Union Castle Line back in the 1960 - 1970's) and the food this time was the best we had. I enjoyed the fish dishes especially. Service in the Mauretania was very professional and in the Lido was fast but effective. Smoking should not be allowed in the restaurants.

Cabins
My room was not lavish in appointments, but comfortable. I travelled once in C1 grade and that was far nicer then M1.

Entertainment
Shows were good. One entertainer was very good - a violinist! QE2 singers and dancers were good. Comic "Robin Good" insulted passengers age and people walked out during the show - suggest they do not use him again.

Activities
Sydney - Melbourne - Adelaide - Perth. Missed Phillip Island due to high seas. I went for a dip in the Deck 7 pool - was heated which is nice.

Who Goes
Yes, lovely people. I travelled with my son, his wife and my two grand children. Most people on the ship were around my age.
