Itinerary: Bahamas
Cruise check-in was very quick and easy. Boarding the ship was a
little bit slow and disorganized. Bags were delivered to our room promptly,
although some people received their bags soaked from sitting outside in the
rain. The ship was beautiful and spacious. We had a great time w/ the
entertainments, ports-of-call and just relaxing on board the ship.
Public areas were very nice. The theatre was a little crowded
for shows. Since the cruise was only about 1/2 full when we went they only
had 1 seating for meals and 1 show for everyone. Dining rooms were very
nicely decorated but we were seated next to a wait station that was noisy
and busy. Pool areas were very nice. The adult pool was especially nice
since we traveled w/out kids. The adults comedy area was small. We had to
stand during the improv. because there weren't enough seats available.
The food was very "foofoo". We felt they tried to go for
presentation rather than taste. Most food was pre-made or frozen. We
didn't have any fresh fish or seafood. The food was nothing to brag about.
I would recommend the Topsider's buffet for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast
foods were sometimes cold (ie eggs, french toast etc...).
Our first night at dinner took over 2 hours due to slow service. I think
both our waiter and assistant waiter (drink boy) were very new. The
assistant waiter dropped a tray of drinks down the back of a gentlemen at
the table behind us. They definitely needed more training.
The only real positive was that if you purchased a bottle of wine and didn't
finish it that night you could finish it the next night. It followed you
from dining room to dining room.
Cabin was very very nice. It was a family suite w/ a verandah.
Closet space was ample and we liked having 2 different bathroom areas. One
had the toilet and a sink, the other had a shower (w/ a full bathtub) and a
sink. Room was very quiet. The only complaint was the cleanliness of the cabin. There were stains on
the curtains going out to the verandah and mold in the vents in the
bathrooms. Twice we came back to our bed turned down after lunch. That was kind of
annoying as well. We weren't ready for bed after lunch anyway.
Shows were great! All shows were fun for both adults and kids. Any seat in the theatre is a good one. Show time was good as well (we had the 9:00 show).
Cruise staff was made up of mostly very young people from England and
Eastern Europe. Most were polite but we noticed lots of "playing around"
amongst crew members at Topsiders Buffet and in the dining room.
Due to Floyd damaging Castaway Cay we detoured to Key West after Nassau. Nassau was really bad. I think Disney should have waited a week to return there. We saw cargo ships dry-docked and 1/2 buried in sand. Nassau
had quiet a bit of damage to buildings and a lot of places were boarded up.
The trees and vegetation were heavily damaged as well. Finding a swimmable
beach was impossible the day we were there.
Key West was great! Wish we had docked earlier in the day (we arrived
around 11:00am). We went kayaking and shopping.
Passengers were very friendly. We live in Colorado and made good friend w/ a couple from Maine. We made lots of friends and had a good time w/ our fellow passengers!
