Itinerary: Alaska
We love this ship. We've been on it twice - once to Alaska in
1999 and once to the Caribbean in 1998. We like the retractable roof over
the pool. Our room was just the right size. The food was wonderful.
We particularly like the Admiral's Lounge. The 2 person
couches are great! There is a walk-around promenade - nice wooden deck and
wooden lounge chairs on the sides of the ship. The covered pool was great
in Alaska. We don't use the casino and were glad to see it off by itself.
We like to spend our time out in the open not inside in a bar.
We find the food on Holland America just wonderful. (We've
sailed with them 3 times.) The service is great but just a little slow. We
liked the breakfast and lunch buffets in the Lido dining room the best.
There was plenty of closet space - way more than we needed. Each
room we have stayed in the 3 times we've sailed with HAL was a little
bigger. But our use for a room is merely to sleep and change clothes. We
want to spend our time out on the open decks.
We attended every nightly show and liked them very much. The
cruise staff and entertainers were great.
The wine tasting on this last cruise was particularly well
presented. I like the demonstrations - ice carving, those involving food -
in particular.
The passengers on our cruise to Alaska were mostly older people. And, yes, we would invite them to dinner.
