My first trip was a cruise and stay in the first year of operation as the Island Escape. I had not heard of the problems in advance so had an open mind. Most of the plumbing problems had been solved but one lift was out of order for the week. My overall impression was good and the informal atmosphere was just right. The staff were very helpful and I heard no-one complaining.
The public areas were well presented and comfortable.
Getting around was easy with lots of stairs and lifts. The one pool was smaller than expected and crowded at times but pool side space was fine for sun-lounging.
The restaurants were clean and the food was varied and plentiful. The 24 hour buffet was excellent with lots of choice. Both of the more formal restaurants were good and the evening only 'a la carte' was very good, with very attentive staff.
Our deck 6 cabin was adequate with TV, phone, single beds and shower room and toilet combined. It was not overlarge but as it was only for sleeping and changing in, was quite OK.
The shows were well staged and the performers made up with enthusiasm what they lacked in talent. Very entertaining and with a great feeling of fun.
There was a very well equipped gym and profession el fitness advice and support. Hairdressing and massage was available too. The shopping deck had a good range of products available from jewelry to souvenirs and some useful clothing.
The passengers were mixed ages with very few children. The relaxed atmosphere was good for socializing in the bars and restaurants.
