Itinerary: Mediterranean
Although the cabins were small, the food was excellent, the entertainment was superb and for a first timer a great experience. We are already booked to travel on her again in September 2001.
The Discovery Lounge was very comfortable, sitting in armchairs for the shows instead of theatre seats. The Orangery looked out to sea and was a calm quiet place. The Voyager Bar got very crowded and was hard to find seats.
The food was extremely good. In the Pharoh's dining room the waiters were friendly polite and helpful, describing and suggesting dishes. The buffets were plentiful and varied. With six meals a day there is always food available and you will certainly out weight on!
Some of the cabins were very tiny and cramped. You could pay extra to be upgraded to a better cabin. Shortage of storage space. Not a lot of room to move about. However, having said that, the only times we were in the cabin was to change or sleep.
We saw all the shows and they were superb. The entertainers were versatile and had good voices. They played a different show each night, which was played twice each night. The cruise staff were very helpful.
We went ashore on several Greek Islands and the mainland and then went to Egypt. There was not enough time spent at the main attraction and the journey was often long. However, it was fascinating going to all the different places. The pool was hardly worth getting in as it was very small, more of a dip than a swim. With only six children on board there was no sign of child care.
Everyone we spoke to were very friendly. We made friends with another couple who were near our age and we are still in contact. They are also making arrangements to join us again when we travel on the SS Ausonia again in September 2001.
