Itinerary: Mediterranean
Louis Cruise's Serenade is an old, tired ship that shows its 48 years. Dreary and smelly, I would not cruise on her again. I did not choose the Serenade, it was part of a package holiday from World of Vacations.
The public areas harked back to the 70’s in their décor. The dining lounge was particularly claustrophobic with its lowered ceiling and drape-covered windows. Most hallways were filled with dank odours that matched their grimy stained carpeting. Retreating to the outer decks meant coping with diesel fumes from the ships centrally located stack. The casino was tiny, as was the pool and “Roman Bath”.
Food in the buffet and dining room was fair to good. Service was good and complaints were dealt with. We got the impression most of the staff were trying their best.
Cabins were on the small side. The décor was hideous with old and faded curtains and bedspreads. The mattresses were the button type that I have not seen since I was a young boy bunking down on a roll away cot at my Granddad’s. They were uncomfortable and lumpy. Most towels were threadbare and stale smelling. The toilets were unreliable.
Entertainment was good. The dancers were lively and the singers were talented. The cruise director was well organised and pleasant.
The itinerary was excellent. We visited Turkey and a number of the Greek Islands. As our goal was siteseeing, we didn't try out any of the ship's onboard activities.
Our fellow passengers were mostly retired folks from the States and Canada.
