Itinerary: Transatlantic
Anyone who loves the sea or maritime history should sail on the Norway at least once. The ship's pedigree as the SS France is more evident now than when originally re-launched as the Norway in 1980. She's noticeably
aging but an incredible travel experience that will not come again.
Club International is the best public room on the seas, bar none and, sorry, QE2. Unfortunately the entire Pool Deck (lower of two public decks) seems very cramped and claustrophobic. Cell-like casino with no natural light and a low-ceiling North Cape Lounge, plus the windowless
theatre. It's virtually like being underwater.
Food and service is incredibly improved since my last trip
in 1988. Absolutely request the Windward dining room. Leeward was in very bad repair, torn wall coverings and worn carpetings. Table linens were perpetually wrinkled and never seemed pressed once in entire 14 day trip.
Cabin was excellent in every way. My 1988 cabin was more originally
French Line, which I have come to realize was only a detriment. Could not complain about any aspect of cabin or service.
NCL's entertainment is the best in the industry. Our crossing featured the Jimmy Dorsey orchestra, Eddie Higgins Quintet, and a host of other acts. Plus the usual on board shows.
Something for everyone during the day and evening.
She attracts a broad range of passengers, though mainly a professional following, many are appreciative of the special ambience that this ship can offer.
