Itinerary: Alaska-Inside Passage

Overview
Cruising the inside passage of Alaska was unforgettable. Being right up to the glaciers, sitting in a deck chair wrapped in a blanket with a park ranger telling us the history of the area was quite an experience. Seeing whales swimming beside the ship. Just watching the snow capped mts as we sailed along was so peaceful.

Public Areas
Norwegian Sky was just a year old. Observation lounge, forward, was a nice place to watch out through, all glass, while sitting at wicker tables with oriental decor. We liked Checkers lounge for the entertainment. Stardust lounge where the shows were held has a seating problem with too many barrel chairs, then tables that won't move, hard for people to move easily in and out. Pool and hot tubs were used because they were heated. Casino had nickel slots!

Food and Service
Lots of places to eat to choice from and with the freestyle you could go when you wanted. We liked the Horizons restaurant best, you had to call for a reservation but no extra gratuity. We ate in the Four Seasons once and Seven Seas more because our room was nearer, could see no difference in the 2 main dining rooms for service. One night because we were tired we went to the Garden Cafe, cafeteria style, and had a nice meal and didn't feel we needed to change our clothes for dinner.

Cabins
We had an inside cabin. Slept real well with no noise and quite dark, due to no porthole. Room was small. Bathroom and shower were fine. They announced they were fixing the lights over the bed ( I think people were hitting their heads) We had a refrigerator, which we never used, I think a shelf or drawers would of been more useful.

Entertainment
Felt all the shows were top class. We went each night, no repetition. Jane L. Powell had a great last night show with guests that you shouldn't miss.

Activities
Health club was open 24hrs and I always saw it being used. Plenty of machines, no crowding. Huge aerobic room with great instructors. Passed the babysitting group one night had to be 15 kids, 2 adults and they were having a good time. Kayaked in Haines where we saw the salmon spawning, water just churning with them. Kayaked in Skagway on a lake up in the mountains with scenery like the tundra because of the deep snows in the winter. Will never forget the train ride down the mountain to Skagway, that the gold rush miners had walked. We enjoyed Sports trivia and one of us did great on music trivia with an excellent pianist playing the songs.

Who Goes
My husband and I were seated with many nice couples as the freestyle you have no set time or set table for meals.Lots from the West coast. Middle age and older was the majority. This was the second week of Sept. so probably most wouldn't take kids out of school at that time.
