Is your Glass "half empty" or or "half full" ? If it's half empty you won't like this cruise - if you're a first time cruiser it's great. I'm a veteran cruiser and NCL missed the mark on this one. Can't quite put my finger on it but you'll notice it too if you have cruised before. Little things like rude photographers to staff not being as service oriented as on other lines - even Carnival.
This is a beautiful ship - new and spotless the Public areas are mixed between great and OK. The Observation Lounge is in the great category. The main show lounge does have blocked viewing due to railings and support columns but if you get there early you should be able to get a good seat.
"Free Style" is the best thing to happen to cruising ! You can eat in any dining room from 5:30 to 10:00PM and sit at a table for two or ten - your choice. The lunch buffets left a lot to be desired - greasy hamburgers and half empty serving trays. This could be easily resolved with more attention to to the serving lines. The menus and service were at best just OK. The reservations only dining rooms were much better - the ten dollar per person charge is worth the extra attention and service.
In a word "Small". We had a outside on Deck 8 - we also looked at the outsides with balconies. They are all adequate but with limited drawer space we had to store our suitcases open under the bed and use them as a dresser. The bathrooms are modular in design and functional. The shower is very small and circular - I can't imagine a large person trying to get all the "nooks and crannies" washed. Enough said!
Again the shows were OK - but the cruise directors staff was young and inexperienced and it showed! The shows - things like the productions and Costumes were not of the quality I expected with one exception - the Cirque de Sea. That truly was a great show - there were several outstanding physical acts of strength that were amazing.
This is my favorite itinerary. Sting Ray City in Grand Cayman, Dunns River Falls in Jamaica and Atlantis in Nassau are on the "must do" list. There were six cruise ships in Nassau - very crowded but quite a site ! The ferries to Paradise Island are crowded and it's a long walk after you get there - take a cab!
70% were over 60 - 20% 40 to 60 and 10% "other". On all cruises you meet "good - bad and indifferent" people. My advise is is to make sure you check the "personality" and reputation of the line to make sure it meets you expectations and then - hope for the best. But it's like everything else in life - you get out of it what you put in to it !
