Itinerary: Caribbean - Western
Overall, any items worth rating were inconsistent, at best. Food ranged from poor to very good. Service was personable and enthusiastic, but not particularly skilled or reliable. Physical plant leaves much to be desired. Obviously, maintenance has been deferred for the refitting that is now taking place. Cruise staff tells us that alcohol is only available by-the-drink on board, and that this is a new rule implemented by all lines on 1-1-01. (except the people in the owners suites were given 3 bottles of their choice in their cabins).
Public areas crowded, with the exception of the Observation lounge, with its trio, Off Center. Good place for adults to dance (the kind where they hold on to each other). Pools appeared adequate, but hot tubs frequently full of unsupervised children.
Food of mixed quality at any given meal. Selection limited and repetitive. Buffets not replenished when necessary, and food allowed to get old and dried-out. Frequently, juice machines empty or diluted.
Cabins small, compared to other vessels. Shower OK, but had plumbing problems that took over 8 hours to get fixed. Limited drawer space, closets small, but we managed.
Shows high-energy, but marginal talent for production shows.
Ports: Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize, Cozumel. Shore excursions appeared higher priced than we were accustomed to on other lines.
This crowd included 600 rowdy Country Music fans who were recruited by a Canadian radio station. Rude, crude, obnoxious and definitely not our kind of people. NCL apparently has no use for their own rules. People were in the dining rooms in shorts, t-shirts, polos and the like.
