My first cruise, and a fantastic experience. The Marco Polo lived up to my highest expectations.

Public areas are nicely furnished and comfortable. The pool was not used at all during my 14 day stay, it is very small, and not a feature of the experience Orient Lines is offering.

Food and service first class. The ambience of the formal "Seven Seas" restaurant made it my first choice. The food in the self-service "Raffles" was very good, but things were a little hectic at times. Buffet meals tend to devalue the cruise experience IMO.

Cabins are the weak spot on this ship, small, and could do with complete refurbishment. The step-up to the bathroom is a potential danger. here the ship shows its age (40yrs)

I attended most of the entertainment offered. The lectures were very good, and the dancers and comics really put their hearts and souls into their performances. The entertainment director did a first-class job. The only disappointment was a Polish Piano Trio, they were awful, especially the violinist, the pianist was fair, but they should have stayed in Poland.

I spent time in the library, which could do with being larger. We called at so many places and took so many excursions it's all a bit of a blur. Rome, Athens, Istanbul, Santorini and Monte Carlo stand out in my memory.

A great mix, made some good friends and keep in touch by e mail.
