Itinerary: Bahamas
Recently I had the pleasure of cruising to the Bahamas, Savannah and Charleston on the SS Rembrandt. I enjoyed the trip very much, the people were great, the food was great and the sailing was smooth. Though a few problems were had and were did not arrive in the ports of call at the times we were given, they made up for it by making everything about our stay on the boat perfect.
On the Rembrandt, I liked all of the lounges, I can't choose just one as my favorite but I can narrow it down to two. I thought the Queens Lounge was nicely decorated and enjoyable to sit in and have a drink and socialize. I also liked the Ritz Carlton Lounge quite a bit too. The sitting area on the balcony was a nice place to sit and read or play cards and the main floor was the host to a few parties along the voyage. There is a walk-around promenade that allowed my travelling mates and I to have some sea air without having to go down by the pool where the children where, it was an excellent place to see the dolphins on one day and see the sunrise and sunset everyday. I did not go into the pool, there were many children playing around it. The casino was nice, the atmosphere was good.
The food and the service were both excellent. The waiters were very nice and were always there with suggestions if they were needed. There was a buffet in the Lido Restaurant and on the Lido deck. I had the privilege of dining in both the La Fontaine and Odyssey restaurants and both were equally fine.
The cabin was just the right size for it's purpose, sleeping. There was enough closet space for three people with even a little extra. The shower was a good size. The only noise heard was the sound of the ship moving and occasionally a talking neighbor.
I attended three shows on board and I enjoyed them all very much. The entertainers were all very talented and I enjoyed seeing them perform and the staff was very good.
On board, the best thing to do was wander and see where your feet take you. There are shows you can attend, movies are shown during the day and there are other activities such as bingo, trivia and a few dancing lessons here and there. Ashore, it all really depends on where you go. We went to the Bahamas where we went shopping and saw a show. In Savannah we were supposed to go on tours but unfortunately the night before there was boiler trouble and we arrived too late to go on the scheduled tours but we did get to look around the city a bit on our own. In Charleston we also arrived late but we still got to go on a tour of the city which was quite interesting. On board there are two pools, neither of which i spent time at and there is a beauty salon with very nice workers where you can get a massage or a facial and other things to pamper yourself. During the cruise there was a place for kids and teenagers to go where they have activities but it's doubtful the older kids would enjoy them.
For the most part the passengers were nice. There was one family that complained about everything, the father picked verbal fights with members of the crew, the mother didn't like anything about the boat or the people on it and the daughter was very obnoxious. I avoided this family as much as possible but I did have to say some things to the daughter as she was close to spoiling my trip and the trips of the nicer fellow passengers. My mother met a very nice couple who have been in touch with her and we will be going there for dinner soon.
