Itinerary: Hawaii
This was a 9 day Hawaii to Ensenada cruise. Would not recommend to anyone who can't stand unruly children. Repeated complaints to ships staff garnered zero results on controlling noise/out of control children. Food was overcooked and lacked any taste other than cardboard. Same drink was priced 4 different ways.
Public areas are clean and neat if somewhat crowded. While staff will bug you to buy drinks almost anywhere on the ship, seems the staff working in the lounges are unaware they are there to sell drinks. You must flag them down almost 95% of the time to get service.
Service in the Crown Court dining room was excellent and was the complete opposite of what the personnel were serving. Food was overcooked, lacked taste, and needed seasonings. Service in the buffet areas was listless with personnel walking around but not cleaning anything up till the table was vacated. Bacon had more GREASE in it after being cooked than before, breakfast meats were generally unappetizing. Lunch buffet was so distasteful that I ate hamburgers from the alternative eating area. Pastry totally lacked sweetness due to no sugar and no salt. Pasta sauces were overloaded with either bell peppers or red chili peppers rendering them pretty sad.
A true bright spot for the Crown. We were on ALOHA (top) deck with a private balcony. Room was neat and clean and shower was surprisingly large for a cruise ship. Storage space was poor in that bed frames are too low to allow storage of suitcases under beds, necessitating use of cabin space.
Did not attend shows. Great movies on ships television system. Of particular note, the ship is unable to keep a constant lock on commercial satellite providing tv signal so fade in/out of signal is common. Sad, considering that technology to hold lock on satellites was perfected over 20 years ago.
Visited Kuaui, Maui, and Hawaii and then sailed to Ensenada Mexico. Best bet would be to rent a car and drive around some of the islands. Onboard there is a wide assortment of things to do as well as watching some first rate entertainment on the ships tv systems.
This was a Christmas cruise. Most of the pax were 50 plus, friendly, outgoing and warm. A very large contingent of Italian children onboard were totally out of control and repeated complaints to ships staff got ZERO results.
