Itinerary: Alaska - Southbound

Overview
Cruised on Dawn Princess with my wife and 16 yr. old son. We all had a wonderful time. The scenery was spectacular. There were over 2,000 passengers on the ship for our cruise which went from Seward to Vancouver. The food in the dining room was excellent. One of the seven entrees I had was mediocre, but everything else we had in the dining room was superb. The soups, desserts, everything was great. The ship and its crew were immaculate, and the service was first rate. The food in the "buffet" area was very average, but what was supposed to be hot was hot and what was supposed to be cold was cold! The pizza in the pizzaria wasn't real good, and the alcoholic drinks were a little pricey. The wine selection was poor and highly overpriced. Over six dollars for a glass of Fetzer wine is ridiculous! In short, we loved the cruise and can highly recommend the Dawn Princess.

Public Areas
This was a very comfortable ship. The decor was appealing and public areas were roomy and clean. The promenade deck was very popular for morning walks. Casino was smallish, and not very busy most of the time.

Food and Service
The dining room was the place to eat. The food here was far better than anywhere else on the ship. The buffet food was very average as was the pizzaria. Service was exceptional throughout. All food areas were kept very clean.

Cabins
We had an inside stateroom for 3 people. It was crowded when dressing for dinner, otherwise it was fine. Beds were comfortable and the room was quiet. The shower could accommodate someone over 6 feet. The steward kept everything very tidy.

Entertainment
We felt the entertainment was good, not outstanding. The best shows seem to be the smaller ones.

Activities
There were several pools on board as well as adjacent hot tubs. All were clean and functional. The health club was very well equipped with 8 treadmills, 4 steppers, and 8 exercise bikes. All were in good working order and we used them everyday. This area was busiest in the mornings. My wife used the spa a couple of times and found the service and selection to be very good.

Who Goes
I would say the average age on this cruise was around 62. I am 51. Our fellow dining companions were most pleasant, and we would enjoy sitting with them again.
