Princess Cruise Line

MS Grand Princess

Your Rating:Three Stars

Date of Trip: December 20, 1998
Itinerary: Caribbean

Overview
Great ship with the following exceptions. You pay for almost everything including sodas & ice cream that's a bit much. Otherwise truly enjoyed traveling on princess. Not too crazy about the trip to the islands but thoroughly enjoyed Mediterranean. last april so much so am doing it again in July.

Public Areas
Public areas very comfortable bright & cheerful. Liked their lounge where they had entertainment as well as the entertainment in their theaters really great. Pools were spacious & kept immaculate. Do not gamble. They have a promenade that we used to walk.

Food and Service
Food was fair. Best food on board was in the Italian rest..buffet on deck was fair food was not really hot when you got it and most of the time was pretty greasy - not great for those people who have to watch their fat intake. Another good place was the cafe in the evening on one side where they usually had the buffet. Went there in place of the dining room.

Cabins
We had an inside cabin as we booked too late for an outside one and ended on the end of the ship. Closet space wasn't too bad considering it was on a ship. No problem for a full size person to fit in the shower but it is pretty tight. First trip in April in the rear of the ship was no problem but trip in December was really bad. Had a cabin in the front and it was really noisy.

Entertainment
Went to every show - 3 in one night. Cruise staff were excellent especially those in the buffet area who did the clean up. Considering they did not get tipped they were excellent. Entertainment was really great. I would give the Grand Princess 4 stars for their broadway type shows that probably spoiled us for any other cruise line.

Activities
Pool & health club is available. Problems with both pool sides - people had a tendancy to put towels on beach chairs to reserve them and so created a shortage in choice areas by the pool. Most would never show up. The same thing applies to the health club. People would put their name down to use the treadmills for certain times and never show up

Who Goes
We do not socialize much so that question cannot be answered
