Forget it - Princess is no longer the upscale cruise experience we recall from earlier cruises.
Public areas are crowded, but otherwise excellent.
Quality of food has deteriorated greatly compared to earlier cruises. Food service was excellent. In earlier days, Princess provided "free" ice cream at the topside buffet. No more. Now "Scoops" sells ice cream at outrageous prices, and operators do not know how to properly construct an ice cream dish.
Cabins are clean. They are small, but adequate. Showers are tight. Our cabin was quiet.
Entertainment has slipped. The number of gala productions has decreased, replaced by movies and comedians, some good, some really bad. (I like comedians.) The cruise staff was excellent.
We toured Barcelona (okay), Casablanca (poor), Gibraltar (excellent), Canne (Sunday, shops closed; took the Monaco/Monte Carlo tour, really bad), Valetta (Independence Day, shops closed), Messina (okay), Naples (okay, but traffic is frenetic), Pisa (okay), and Rome. Tours have become cattle drives. Our post-cruise hotel experience at Rome's Crowne Plaza was disappointing.
Fellow passengers at our large table were excellent, Americans and Brits. Other cruise passengers varied greatly. Cultural differences, such as food preferences, resulted in strange breakfast buffet selections.
