Itinerary: Alaska-Inside Passage

Overview
We are new to the cruise game. I found working through the intermediary (travel agent) exceedingly frustrating. I am used to far more control and access to far more information. Princess will have to come into the computer age sooner rather than later to meet the demands of travelers over 70. Pre and post travel arrangements "your way" was impossible. It was do it their way or pay. Their "deviation" department was beyond rude and unhelpful. However, once on the ship, Princess shined and a nice trip was had by all.

Public Areas
The Princess Sun was wonderful. Other than the food court at lunch (a zoo to say the least), there were many places to get away from the crowds.

Food and Service
Food was standard fare, even though they tried to be "gourmet". You just can't get away from the fact that they have to feed 2,000 people at each meal. There was however, lots of fresh fruit and an opportunity to eat "low fat" when you wanted. There was plenty of high-fat food in the menus and in the food court.

Cabins
Cabin was fine. Of course, everything is on a much smaller scale (it is a ship after all). Having a balcony was a real plus.

Entertainment
Shows were a little on the tacky side, but kind of entertaining. There were certainly lots of them - two different shows every night.

Activities
On Board: Mostly looked at the gorgeous scenery and enjoyed the naturalist's commentaries. Also enjoyed the exercise room and swimming pools. The gambling, cards, bingo, art auctions were annoying. Princess has no shame when looking for your last $. On Shore: Lots of good tours/excursions to choose from - your only limited by your budget. Our family of 5 paid a small fortune for the 3 days in port, but did enjoy all that we did and felt it really got us out and into Alaska.

Who Goes
Although the median age of the passengers was a bit older than our family, it was a dignified group on the whole. Folks were friendly, educated and well mannered. Kids (ours included) seemed well behaved and interested in the cruise.
