Princess Cruise Line

MS Tahitian Princess

Your Rating:Four Stars
Reviewed by:Allan and Mary Wilson
# previous cruises: 10 to 20
Date of Trip: June 2, 2003
Itinerary: South Pacific

Overview
The Tahitian Princess was the finest cruise ship experience my wife and I have had. The ship was the most elegantly appointed and appropriately laid out we have been on in 10 cruises. Very friendly and helpful crew. Cruise in June, July, August, September for cooler, drier climate.

This ship was formerly a Renaissance ship. I wish Princess had purchased all of these ships, as I would search them out for future cruises. The new Oceanea Cruise Line has two or three of them; and the photos of those ships on this site are very good; and look like the Tahitian Princess.

Public Areas
The "Night Club", up top, on the bow of the ship, doubled as a terrific observation lounge in the daytime. Gorgeous "south seas" themed decor. Nice place to go when entering or leaving a port; or just to read a book on "at sea" days. The large library, with cherry wood paneled walls and classic furniture was the nicest we have seen.

Food and Service
Service was excellent all around. Many Romanians and Hungarians were employed, and they were very nice and helpful.

Food in the buffet area was "good". The food in the dining room was consistently "excellent". The food in "The Grille" (steak house) and Sabatini's Trattoria (Italian) was superior, as was the service.

Cabins
Our cabin was nice and quite, with a veranda, which was very nicely decorated and comfortable. The room service was excellent.

Entertainment
Shows were good on a smaller stage than we have grown accustomed to. However, this led to a more "comfortable" feel. Never a problem securing seats for shows.

Activities
This south pacific cruise included the Society Islands of Moorea, Riatea, Bora Bora; and the Samoan Islands of Western Samoa and American Samoa. A most pleasant surprise were the Samoan Islands. Gorgeous, lush, green Islands, warm, clear waters; and very friendly people. Good and fun music was played dockside by a band in Western Samoa. A kind of a mix of Hawaiian and Regaee types of sound, I thought (you had to be there).

Who Goes
Lots of very nice people. Nice mix of younger married couples, and "young at heart" couples. Quite a few honeymooners; and some celebrating 5 or 10 year anniversaries. Not many young children or teenagers as we cruised in very early June. Mostly Americans; but some Australians and Kiwi's (who mix very well with Americans). California was well represented. We met folks from the mid-west and south, as well.
