Itinerary: Europe
The first RCI 2005 cruise from Southampton, down to the Canaries. The ship had just repositioned from USA, and had come from a refit in Lisbon. IT SHOWED. Beautiful ship, good food but little of it. Food menu's poor. Pound/dollar value absymal. (To convert the ship from dollar to pound sterling, all that apparently changed was the dollar sign. The price remained the same. 100% inflation in anyone's book). Every spend loaded with 15% gratuity and 7% tax. Very expensive on board. A 2 star cruise at a 5 star price!
A beautiful ship. The 4 deck 'centrum' with glass lifts is breathtaking. Excellent pool, good solarium. Public rooms are very nicely furnished. The schooner bar was the place to be for quiet entertainment. 11th deck disco was very under used mainly due to inability to match the music to the age group.
Wonderful views from the 'Crown Lounge' on deck 11.
Very poor. Little choice of menu in main dining room. Good quality of food in dining room, but little of it. Windjammer cafe on deck 9 was very popular, mainly because of the choice, but it was very overcrowded most of the time.
Crew most helpful, cheerful, and service was good.
English draft beer ran out within 3 hours of leaving UK! At #4.10p per pint, can't understand why!
On deck 3,forward, very quiet. Plenty of storage. Comfortable beds. Large shower with plenty of hot water.
Guests toward the stern on most decks complained of slight vibration.
RCI produce their own shows, and most were quite entertaining. Several of the guest entertainers were very good, one was pretty poor. Personal taste, really.
Plenty to do on board, including internet cafe. Walking/jogging circuit on deck 9. Good gym. Plenty of space despite sailing full. Good itinerary, trips very reasonably priced. The indoor solarium pool was warm, difficult to get a lounger, and the food from the solarium 'bar' was awful.
A good cross section of mainly UK residents, from elderly couples to young families. Quite a lot of 'repeat' RCI cruisers, taking advantage of the 'no flying' option. Most expressed concern at the inflated costs, compared with cruising RCI out of the states. Quite a few disabled cruisers, no apparent difficulties in getting about on board.
Many, many complaints on board from disgruntled passengers. All went apparently unheeded. RCI response when back in UK, 'Yes we are aware of the problems and are striving to get it right' No apologies offered.
