Itinerary: Bahamas
For a first-time cruiser, I found the Majesty to be the perfect size. With a visit to one port each day of the cruise, however, I thought it was going to be too hectic. But I managed to hit the highlights at each stop and still had enough time to enjoy the ship's activities/facilities. My teen-aged relatives, however, were somewhat disappointed. The Majesty was being retrofitted with a rock-climbing wall; we were told that the teen center, video arcade, and sports deck had to be closed during the construction period. There should have been alternatives made available to the 16+ year-olds to make up for this inconvenience.
The Viking Crown Lounge (though seemingly underused by the passengers), the Piano bar in the Schooner, and the Chorus Line theater were my favorites. It's too bad I didn't discover the Champagne Bar till the last night.
I loved the ambience of the Mikado. We had a terrific table service staff. Overall, the food selection was very good and I never felt hurried except during the Gala Midnight Buffet with the ice carving extravaganza.
The Windjammer is a great place for breakfast, lunches, and snacks. The coffee, however, was definitely watered down. Go to the dining room for breakfast if you want a more decent cup of java.
I expected cramped quarters when we opted for an inside stateroom. When I first walked in, though, I was pleasantly surprised how cozy it felt and how well lit it was. There was ample room in the closet for two people. Luggage fit perfectly under the beds. If a full-sized person meant someone under 5'8" and 190 lbs., then the shower is adequate. Otherwise, check out which of the other cabin categories offer more elbow room in the shower stalls.
The cruise director was quite multi talented; he emceed, danced, coaxed, and hosted game shows with such energy each time. Don't miss Majesty's Quest--it's hilarious! The singers/dancers were okay--they had one too many country-western-themed shows. The comedian was great. I like the way they taped and replayed most, if not all, of the shows on TV the day after.
I was disappointed with the Spa. If you want details, you may write me. They also didn't seem to know right away when the Compass publication advertises the Spa special of the day. For example, they were unaware of what the special includes and how long. The two pools were too crowded; so were the two jacuzzis. The roving waiters served the most refreshing tropical drinks. There was a different special drink every day.
Nassau was the first stop. It was okay. Atlantis was the only thing that was worth visiting, I thought. The Nassau shopkeepers didn't seem friendly either. It must have been the heat that day. Coco Cay made up for everything--that was a great beach day, although too short. I thought the Aqua Park was overrated. Key West is always nice. Take the Conch Train if you're visiting for the first time.
We met some of the nicest and most interesting people--both passengers and restaurant staff. Our table mates were the best. And yes, I would definitely invite them for dinner except they're a few states away from me.
