Date of Trip: September 14, 1998
Itinerary: Mediterranean
Once a fine ship, the Stella Solaris is being replaced-- and meantime upkeep is being neglected. Most passengers described it as seeming " tired"...
The public areas clearly were once quietly spectacular; now linens need mending, carpeting is stained, upholstery is faded, etc.
The food was very good-- in variety, preparation, and presentation. The Lido deck mostly featured the previous day's leftovers, but they were good enough that no one minded.
Our cabin was spacious but the upholstery was filthy, the curtains saggy and dusty, and the bathroom tile in need of re grouting. We experienced several maintenance problems (plumbing, locks, PA system, etc.), but some passengers had a disaster when several cabins flooded (burst pipe). Poor maintenance was an everyday topic among passengers. Most of us still enjoyed the cruise-- but would *not* repeat or recommend it!
The entire crew was terrific-- best part of the cruise. The shows were OK, but the music overall was very good for listening and dancing.
We stopped at several Greek islands-- fabulous. The double pool on the ship is *tiny*... small health club was OK.
Very nice fellow passengers-- from around the world, tho' largely American. Most people were between ages 45-70.
