: I absolutely loved my holiday on the Gemini. The range of activities on the ship kept us busy the whole time. I am really fussy about service but could not find one fault with the service on this ship - everybody is very professional and very friendly and helpful. There was a good age range of passengers - not all oldies as I had feared. And the entertainment caters from children to retirees.
I enjoyed the shows in Galaxy of the Stars Theatre. The passenger/crew disco was also a fabulous night, and the current band Synergy kept the Star Bar pumping. The Gemini Big Band was also very good. I was surprised at how small the pool was - but I did not have time to use it more than once anyway. The equipment in the gym is very new and the gym staff helpful and friendly, though I found the equipment all tended to be focussed on arms and not much if you wanted to tone your legs or butt. A fit ball would be a good addition to the gym.
The service was above outstanding, and always with a smile. That is the main thing I rave about to friends when talking about the Gemini. The food was fabulous - almost 24 hours a day and with a wide variety to choose from. The settings were good too, from casual to fine dining and everything in between.
We were on deck three and had two portholes. Our cabin had everything we needed, including a hair dryer which we did not have to request, as the brochures say. There was plenty of storage space for the two of us. However, we were so busy enjoying the activities on board the ship and the tours when we docked, that the only time we spent in our room was for the five hours sleep we got each night! And although we could hear the engines, they did not bother at us all - instead lulling us to sleep.
Out of ten, I rate the multi-talented cruise staff 15. Waiters by day - singers and dancers by night. My favourite show was the one where the cruise staff performed - especially Gilligan doing his Priscilla impersonation. Entertainment director and comedian Colin, from Scotland, had me in stitches every time he spoke, and I thought it was a nice touch to have the musical farewell for passengers disembarking on tours for the day. Synergy is a fabulous band - I wish they would come to Perth.
I think the best stops were Phuket (for the elephants), Langkawi (for the duty free shopping, and just because it is so pretty and laid back) and Malacca. The pointers given by the crew prior to docking are very helpful and honest - they genuinely look out for the passengers and do not glorify things for the sake of tourism, which I really appreciated.
A group of about 15 of us "young" ones all got together during our cruise - we all met each other on board, and have exchanged addresses and phone numbers to keep in contact. There were a lot of Australians on board, and a lot from Perth too. Some people even met neighbours they didn't know they had!
