Itinerary: Orient
This was a delightful ship - small, informal, friendly and comfortable.
Cruising out of Singapore they have several Asian itineraries - we chose the Vietnam and Kuching options.
This was our first cruise with free style dining and no set table companions - and contrary to our expectations - we thoroughly enjoyed this style.
For a small ship there were more than enough public areas to sit and relax. Interestingly there were no indoor areas to smoke.
The casino was always full - but there always seemed to be machines available - with very low denominations.
There is a walk around promenade - 5 laps = 1 mile. And there is a nice pool although for some reason it wasn't very well frequented.
There is one dining room and one buffet area. There is no 24 hour free room service and the only midnight buffets I noticed were Beer and Wine buffets - but it worked so well.
They had a Chocolate Buffet at 3-30 one day - WHAT A GOOD IDEA.
There was an adequate - and always tasty - choice of food. Perhaps the dessert choice wasn't as wide as I would have liked - but we did just fine with what there was.
The cabin was really comfortable. We had an outside cabin - with window and obstructed view. Our only complaint about the cabin has to be that there is not adequate drawer space - although there is the room for it.
We went to most of the evening shows on board - probably all. They cannot compare to the larger ships / shipping lines in terms of sets, but their entertainment value was still good. The Brazilian dancers and Chinese Acrobats were very enjoyable.
TV was, however, limited. On occasion we would have enjoyed watching movies (even old movies) in the cabin but invariably had to settle for the news channels.
There was the usual choice of activities every day - and as usual we did none of them. With the exception of having 2 sessions of massages - something we usually cant afford at US$ rates on the larger shipping lines.
We were on board to relax - hence our choice of an itinerary with over 3 days (out of 7) at sea.
But the main reason we chose that itinerary - was for the overnight stop in Ho Chi Mihn City.
Our itinerary was Singapore - Vietnam - Kuching on the island of Borneo - Singapore.
In one word H O T
The ship has a capacity of 800 passengers but sailed with only 450 - over 200 of whom were Australian. There were a number of Malaysians and New Zealanders, only 10 South Africans and if I recall correctly - no Americans or British.
