The Leo was stunning and quite different from traditional cruise
ships. With a tonnage of 76,000 grt and a cruising speed of 25 knots, she is
the one of the fastest cruise ships around. With three main dinning areas
and four optional dining outlets, choice is not a problem.
Her main space is the grand centrum which unlike the norm is
rectangular in shape and rises seven decks up. A grand piano "floating"
above water is the centerpiece. She has a wrap-around promenade on deck 7
which completely encircles that deck from bow to stern. Her casino located
on the same deck is hugh and split on two levels. She has two two pools, one
for adults only, amidship, and the other for kids, in the stern complete
with slides and a pirate ship. In additional there are five whirlpools. Her
forward observation lounge on deck 12 has floor to ceiling windows and
extends over the bridge wings to offer unparalleled views of the sea all
around.
She has three main dining areas. Raffles the buffet allows
both indoor and outdoor dining on deck 12. Indoors the room has floor to
ceiling windows and outdoors, it overlooks the children's pool and play
areas. Cuisine would be fusion with western, chinese and indian food side by
side. There are four separate lines and dessert islands so there is no
overcrowding. Service is fair and fast. The chinese restaurant serves
traditional chinese food, service is fair.
The western restaurant is quite elegant with it's ceiling rising to the rear
ending with three hugh windows showing the ships wake. Service is good with
staff striving to please, the food is normal cruise cuisine with some
fusion i.e. western combined with eastern fair. In addition, she has a local
styled eatery that serves local delights, a separate chinese restaurant, a
japanese restaurant and a french restaurant.
Mine was a balcony cabin on deck 11. It is a standard sized cabin
with ample closet space for a short cruise. The bathroom had a separate
shower stall that was big enough for me to have a comfortable shower.
Soundproofing was good as I was unable to hear my neighbours.
There was a magic show complete with live tigers and lions. A
first for a cruise ship I think. Normal broadway styled production. In
thailand, a local show was brought on board that was quite refreshing.
Lots of activities with horse racing, ball dancing, bingo, ice
cream eating contest, talks on destinations, wine appreciation. Ashore, one
could opt to take a tour or go free and easy. At Phuket and Langkawi being
islands going out by myself was easier. The adult pool was great Child care
facilities were available with crew to supervise constantly.
Mostly Asians with quite a few Australians. Most passengers kept
to themselves so there was not much interaction between us.
