Itinerary: Orient
We thought the cruise was wonderful overall - however it is
predominantly geared for Asian passengers - especially in relation to the
food.
Public areas were very spacious, well lit and not at all
crowded. The only exception was the casino which was extremely crowded with
Asian gamblers.
We dined mainly at Windows restaurant with a couple of forays into the Chinese and Japanese. The buffet restaurants's food looked very ordinary to say the least.
Service in Windows restaurant was not up to scratch - they had an
overabundance of young male staff who appeared to be very ill at ease in
serving English speaking passengers. These staff (who wore white
shirts)seemed to be lacking training and had obviously been "let loose" on
the passengers before they were capable of serving.
Cabin was extremely good for the price - housekeeping service was
very efficient. Everything worked, laundry service very cheap and good
service.
We attended the shows on most nights - we felt the "Simon
Show" very poor - the Star Cruises dancers were quite good. We felt that
there was a lack of personalisation - the Entertainment Director was only
seen on the Captain's Dinner evening. We felt he could have introduced the
show each night and explained the next day's programme.
Activities on board were very good - horse racing, bingo, line
dancing etc. Movies were up-to-date in good theatre.
Activities ashore were well organised however one wonders if they are
necessary and whether people would not prefer to cruise all the time.
Fellow passengers were in the main Asian and only interested in
the casino or other forms of gambling. We went on the cruise with another
couple and really did not expect to meet other people - however we feel this
would not have been easy.
