Windjammer Cruise Line

S/V Polynesia

Date of Trip: July 19, 2004
Itinerary: Caribbean

Overview
The only way to describe our cruise aboard the Polynesia is to quite my 8-year-old son "Totally Awesome". This really is for the people that want to try something a little different, get away from huge crowds and 'decompress' for a little bit, but still enjoy some activity. Getting dressed for dinner usually meant putting on a clean T-shirt. Bring along a small backpack as tranfers to and from the launches to the Polynesia are 'hand-free'.

Public Areas
The public areas of ship are comfortable - if well worn, like a old favorite sweater.

Food and Service
The food was top-notch. Only a couple of sit down dinners - the rest of the time, there were beach BBQ's,and buffets. My only complaint is that they should have tall water glasses in the dining room. Ships crew is friendly - everyone seems to have their own favorite Steward or boat mate. Casual and intimate.

Cabins
The cabin are small with limited facilities. Who needs a closet when your entire wardrobe consists of shorts, swimsuits and T-shirts. The only time spent in the cabin was to shower and sleep. A common problem with some cabins is that they get too cold due to the AC - but a steward provided the necessary repair - several strips of duct tape over the AC vent. Low tech repair - added to part of the experience.

Entertainment
Entertainment on board is much orientated with the passengers in mind - often they are the entertainment. A couple of nights local musicians performed on-board for a couple of hours. Nothing glitzy, again, simplicity at it's best. The passenger scavenger hunt was great.

Activities
Kids programs are outstanding for the limited space available. The teens had a variety of activities that kept them occupied most nights until midnight, while the Junior Jammers until 9pm, after that, the charge was $10.00 an hour. As for excursions - very reasonably priced. For the most part, small ports, - and be prepared for 'wet landings' The snorkel trip out of Nevis to St. Kitt's was a perfect family activity.

Who Goes
With only 120 passengers, in the course of a week, got to know many of the fellow passengers. Would have any of them over - as a matter of fact, due to the intimacy of the ship, I already know what everyone's drink preference is.
